• She used to go to premieres of horror movies with my brother and me.
• She read Harry Potter to me. The entire series.
• She let me run around with my clothes off for the first 5 years of my life.
• She not only let me get lip rings, but paid for them “so that you don’t go to some seedy place.”
• She paid for me to get my mohawk…and then trimmed it for me every two weeks.
• She homeschooled me. ‘Nuff said.
• She taught me Latin, which has helped me tremendously. Latin is an underrated subject.
• She let me help train kids in self-defense…and made sure that I got trained in self-defense, too.

Recently I had to go to the doctor. She wanted to go with me to make sure the doctor really paid attention, but she also wanted me to have my privacy, so she said “When they ask you about substance use, I’m going to leave the room. That way you can be totally honest. I don’t care if you smoke a little pot as long as you’re being responsible.”

My mom is amazing.
